专利说明:
"METHOD AND SET TO PRODUCE VEGETABLES, MUSHROOMS OR HERBS READY FOR CONSUMPTION, AND, CLOSED CONTAINER" [001] The present invention relates to a method for producing vegetables, mushrooms or herbs ready for consumption. The invention also deals with a set comprising the constituents for carrying out the method and a container comprising the vegetables, mushrooms or grass. [002] Vegetables, mushrooms and herbs are traditionally produced by producers specialized in greenhouses or fields. After harvesting, the product needs to be transported to a retail outlet. Transport costs have an impact on the final consumer price. In addition, it is sometimes necessary to store the product before it is distributed. For certain products this may require specialized storage facilities. [003] Therefore, it is an object of the invention to provide a new way of producing vegetables, mushrooms and herbs that leads to lower costs and a fresher product. [004] The vegetable supply chain comprises those parties that are directly or indirectly involved in fulfilling a customer order. The vegetable supply chain can include, but is not limited to, seed breeders, seed suppliers, producers, transporters, warehouses, retailers and consumers themselves. By improving efficiency at various stages of the supply chain, the end consumer will not only have a fresher product, but the costs involved in the various stages of the supply chain can be reduced. Therefore, it is also an object of the invention to provide a solution to improve the efficiency of the vegetable supply chain and thereby reduce the cost of vegetable production. [005] The present invention thus provides a method for the production of vegetables, mushrooms, or herbs ready for consumption comprising the steps of: a) growing vegetables, mushrooms or herbs in a closed container under appropriate growing conditions, until ripening; and b) transfer the container with the ripe vegetables, mushrooms or herbs to a retail outlet. [006] In a preferred embodiment, the cultivation of vegetables, mushrooms or herbs until ripening will occur at, or in the vicinity of, the retail outlet. Appropriately, the products are grown in storage areas or basements at the retail point of sale. In this way, transportation costs are saved. In addition, products do not need to be stored between harvest and transport to your retail point of sale and are therefore fresher. The retail outlet is appropriately a supermarket, but other types of stores can also be envisaged. [007] It is not necessary for the method of the present invention to be carried out at the retail point itself. It is also possible for products to be grown at regional facilities in order to provide various retail outlets in the area, but still continuing to achieve part of the benefit of reducing transportation costs. [008] The cultivation facilities are preferably provided with specialized lighting systems designed to provide the correct light intensity and color and, in particular, the well-known assimilation lighting. Such systems can be controlled automatically to allow a cycle of light and darkness, which is particularly adapted to the type of vegetable or herbs. [009] Before growing vegetables, mushrooms or herbs, the seed for the vegetable or herb or spores for the mushrooms is placed on or on a substrate in the container and the container is closed. Alternatively, a sprouted seed, seedling or seedling of the vegetable or herb or mycelium for the mushrooms is placed on or in the substrate in the container before closing it. [0010] In one embodiment, the substrate is placed in the container as part of the method. In an alternative embodiment, the container is already provided with the substrate. In another embodiment, seeds, spores, seedlings, seedlings or mycelium are also included and the container is already closed. [0011] In order to germinate, the seeds or spores need to be in contact with a fluid, such as water or a tampon. Appropriately, the container is closed after introducing the fluid into the container. Since the container remains unopened before the product is ready to be consumed, all nutrients and fluids necessary to obtain a mature product must be included in the container before closing. [0012] Appropriately, the container is closed with a permeable membrane. The membrane is permeable to oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2), but preferably impermeable to contamination and pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, protists or insects. The products thus grow in an environment free of contamination and pathogens. The strength requirements for products are much less than for greenhouse or field cultivation. Each plant or mushroom is individually packaged and cannot contaminate other plants or be contaminated. The retailer can therefore use seeds that have less resistance, which, as a consequence of the reduction in development costs, are more profitable. [0013] After sowing the seeds or spores, or planting the germinated seeds, seedlings, seedlings or mycelium, the container is closed with the membrane to be opened again only by the consumer after the product is sold. Thus, the product itself does not require handling and remains much more hygienic. [0014] The method of the invention is particularly suitable for leafy vegetables, in particular, lettuce, endive, arugula, lamb's lettuce, blue leaf herb, chard, leafy beet, spinach, radish. Vegetables can also be sprout vegetables, such as watercress, beet sprouts, alfalfa, broccoli sprouts, bean sprouts, fennel sprouts, cabbage sprouts, garlic sprouts, leek sprouts, pea sprouts, chickpea sprouts, radish sprouts. [0015] Lettuce includes, for example, leafy lettuce, head lettuce or small leaf lettuce. For small leaf lettuce, different varieties of lettuce can be used to obtain an attractive mix. In one embodiment, two or more lettuce seeds of different varieties are used to obtain a mixture of different leaf or head lettuce plants. [0016] Herbs are, for example, selected from chives, parsley, basil, dill, coriander, cilantro, mint, oregano, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, melissa, tarragon, sage. In a particular embodiment, herbal mixtures can be produced as a mixture of Italian herbs or a mixture of French herbs. [0017] Mushroom mixtures can also be made using different spores. The method can also be used to obtain a large mushroom, such as a Portobello mushroom. [0018] In a particular embodiment, the seeds can be provided in the form of a seed mat, seed band or in any other way. This is especially practical for mixtures of herbs or vegetables so that the correct distance from the seed is automatically obtained when placing the mat on the substrate. [0019] The substrate appropriately comprises nutrients for vegetables, mushrooms and herbs. For each type of product, a corresponding substrate can then be designed, in which the appropriate amount of nutrients is contained. In addition, it is possible to include nutrients in the fluid that is supposed to be added to the substrate. The substrate and the fluid together can be in the form of a gel on which the plant or mushroom can grow. [0020] The container is preferably provided with a label containing information regarding vegetables, mushrooms or herbs. The information includes, for example, the name of the vegetable, nutritional fact, expiration date and price. In addition to such sales information, other information, such as revenue, may also be included. The container can also be provided with a paper package that contains such information. [0021] The label or packaging can be applied before or immediately after the container is closed. Alternatively, the label or packaging is applied directly before transfer to the retail outlet. When applying the label or packaging, care must be taken that the upper side of the container is not so covered as to make it difficult for light to enter the container. [0022] The invention also relates to a set to produce vegetables, mushrooms or herbs ready for consumption, comprising a container, a substrate, sowing or planting material, and a permeable membrane. [0023] Regarding both the method and the set, the size and shape of the container preferably corresponds to the size and shape of the ripe vegetable, or herbs or the amount of mushrooms to be produced. The container can also have any other shape. [0024] Appropriately, the closing membrane is at least partially self-adhesive, in particular at the edges. The membrane can then be easily attached to the open side of the container in order to seal it. [0025] In an embodiment of the set, the substrates and seeds are already placed in the container, and the container is already closed with the membrane. In this embodiment, no moisture should be present in the container, as this can lead to premature germination. In order to introduce the fluid, the container is then provided with means to allow the fluid to enter the container. Such means are, for example, valve means that prevent the entry of contaminants and pathogens. [0026] The invention further relates to a container comprising a vegetable, mushrooms or herbs, which can be obtained by the method, as claimed. The container is appropriately adapted to the shape of the product. It can be a square box, a rectangular box or a tube, or any other shape. [0027] The invention can be carried out without the contribution of the grower. The retailer can buy his seed directly from seed sales companies. Since a step in the vegetable supply chain is no longer needed, the retailer can produce his own vegetables, mushrooms and herbs at significantly less cost. [0028] The present invention will be further illustrated in the figures that follow. In the figures, equal reference numbers refer to the same or corresponding parts. [0029] Figure 1 shows how the substrate and the seed are placed in the container still open. A) is a square box for a lettuce plant. B) is a tube for herbs. C) is a rectangular box for small leaf lettuce. [0030] Figure 2 shows the closed boxes with the growing plants corresponding to Figure 1. [0031] Figure 3 shows a growth installation with several boxes. [0032] Figure 4 shows the boxes with the mature plants corresponding to Figure 1. [0033] Figure 5 shows the boxes when labeled and placed in the supermarket. [0034] Figure IA shows a square box 1 with a substrate 2 in which a seed 3 is placed. In Figure 1B a tube 4 is shown that comprises multiple seeds 5 for growing chives. In Figure 1C a seed mat 6 comprising a mixture of lettuce seeds is placed on substrate 2 in a rectangular container 7. [0035] After sowing, water is introduced into containers 1, 4 and 7, after which they are closed with a permeable membrane 8 which is attached to the edges of the upper end of the containers. Boxes 1, 4 and 7 are then subjected to a cultivation regime adapted to the product to be cultivated. The seeds will germinate and seedlings 9, 10 and 11 are visible in Figure 2. [0036] Figure 3 shows how the heads of lettuce are grown in individual boxes that are sealed with a permeable membrane 8 in the basement of a supermarket. Assimilation lighting 12 is installed in order to provide plants with the correct light. [0037] In Figure 4 the mature products are shown. Boxes 1 and 7 contain a head of ripe lettuce 9 and small lettuce plants 11, respectively. In box 4, a chive plant 10 is visible. [0038] Figure 5 shows how a head lettuce 9 grown in a closed container 8 after receiving a label 13 can be presented on a shelf or cooling unit 14 in a supermarket.
